The Protein b1+b2 gel is designed to provide additional separation, or higher resolution, in the beta region between the protein bands of transferrin and complement (C3) without any additional time required for electrophoresis. The resulting pattern can either be delimited into the traditional five fractions or into six protein fractions (Albumin, Alpha-1, Alpha-2, Beta-1, Beta-2, and Gamma). Many monoclonal proteins migrate in the beta region of the pattern. Higher resolution in this fraction facilitates their identification. Additionally, recent published guidelines are recommending use of a protein screening assay with higher beta fraction resolution for improved clinical and laboratory evaluation of patients with monoclonal gammopathies.* Test sensitivity, resolution and throughput are equivalent to Sebia's Protein assay. As with the Protein assay, both serums and concentrated urine samples can be assayed on the same gel.
